Graphic Design Training in Kenya: Lunch With Our Graphic Design Students

Today was a great day for our graphic design students.

Our Creative Director and Co-Founder, Gitonga Ruchiami, you can call himTosh, took the graphic design students out for lunch after their graphic design training session.

The students are part of the FCA Creative Industries Program, a program run by Finn Church Aid. TAG Creative has been part of this program since it started, supporting young creatives with practical digital skills training.

For the last 2 months, Tosh has been leading the graphic design training for this cohort. The students are beginners, but they are learning how to think, create, design, and use modern tools with confidence…and the results so far has been astounding!

Just look at this design from one of our students, Alex Momanyi. In this clip below, he is showing off a content marketing video that he created from scratch…and just to think that the graphic design training started just 2 months ago. Impressive!

Every graphic designer in Kenya should learn video editing & digital marketing. One of the biggest mistakes many graphic designers make is stopping at design. Today, businesses need more than a logo, poster, or social media graphic. They need content that grabs attention, tells a story, and helps them attract customers online. That’s why learning digital marketing skills such as video creation, video editing, social media marketing, content creation, and advertising can make you far more valuable to employers and clients. Think about it: A graphic designer can create a poster. A designer who can also edit videos can create: ✅ Social media videos ✅ TikTok content ✅ Instagram Reels ✅ YouTube Shorts ✅ Facebook video ads ✅ Product videos Which one do you think a business is more likely to hire? Businesses are looking for people who can help them get results, not just create designs. In our Graphic design Training class, one of our students shares a video project they created during the Graphic Design Training module. This is exactly why we teach a combination of: Graphic Design Video Editing Content Creation Social Media Marketing Digital Marketing AI Tools The more skills you can combine, the more value you can offer, the more opportunities you create, and the more difficult you become to replace. 📍 Learn practical digital marketing and creative skills with TAG Creative. Graphic Design Training Is More Than Learning Software

Many people think graphic design training is only about learning tools like Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, or AI design tools. But good graphic design training is also about confidence.

It is about helping students understand ideas, solve problems, ask questions, share their thoughts, and believe that they can create professional work.

That is why today’s lunch was important.

When students are relaxed, they open up more. They ask questions more freely. They share what they are struggling with. They talk about their dreams, their fears, and what they want to do after the training.

This helps us understand them better as people, not just as students.

Why Community Matters in Graphic Design Training

Graphic design, as well as learning digital marketing and other digital skills such as SEO and coding can sometimes feel like a lonely skill to learn. Many beginners spend hours watching tutorials, trying to figure things out on their own, and wondering whether their work is good enough.

When students learn as part of a community, they realise they are not alone. They can ask questions, share ideas, learn from each other’s mistakes, and see how other people approach the same design challenge.

Being part of a creative community also helps students grow faster. Designers improve through feedback. Sometimes another student will notice something you missed. Sometimes a trainer will suggest a better way to communicate an idea. These conversations help students become better designers and more confident creatives.

Today’s lunch gave everyone a chance to connect outside the classroom and get to know each other better. When people feel comfortable around each other, they are more willing to ask questions, share their work, and support one another. Over time, these relationships become an important part of the learning journey.

This also matters because graphic design is not just about creating designs on a computer. Professional designers work with clients, marketing teams, business owners, content creators, and other creatives every day. Learning how to communicate ideas, receive feedback, and collaborate with others is just as important as learning design software.
